Over the last few years, we have been developing and using Red Square as a gallery/studio/center for agitprop art and movement organizing. On our walls are displays of banners and murals that reveal a rich history of working class strikes and struggles. Our history has always been suppressed by the employing class. Efforts to bring our story to light, however modest, are part of relearning our historic methods of struggle that we need for upcoming battles.

The bulk of the art here is by Mike Alewitz, who has earned the dubious distinction of being the most censored artist in the world – because he paints for the invisible workers, the workers with no names. The real authors of this work are not an individual or even a group of artists. The real authors are the workers and activists who engaged in militant struggle – some who paid with their blood. We consider ourselves custodians of these images because they embody the story of these workers.

Red Square is a volunteer project. We haven’t done much fundraising in the past, but now we need your help, as we try to navigate this tumultuous world of constant war and oppression! One way we will continue to do that is by receiving consistent financial support. No amount is too small or too large – we all do what we can.
