Palestine Projects
Palestine: East Jerusalem, Occupied Bethlehem, and Kufr Qara / 2003
By Mike Alewitz and volunteers
Alewitz traveled to Palestine to paint three murals. The project was organized by the Labor Art & Mural Project and supported by numerous US unions in solidarity with the working people of Palestine.
Monument to Rachel Corrie – Mural painted at the Beit Arabiya Peace Center (Anata, East Jerusalem) in 2003. It was destroyed by Israeli Defense Forces after the 5th Rebuilding (Jan. 2012)
Bread, Roses & Handala – Mural painted for the Beit Jibrin Refugee Camp in Occupied Bethlehem. Inaugurated on August 2, 2003. Painted by Mike Alewitz & Volunteers.
No Walls Between Workers – Mural painted at an Israeli Arab Village. (2003)
Breaking Walls, A Film by Video48, 2004
Follows three people whose paths intersect at a mural in an Israeli Arab village – Mike, Dani and Mus’ab. The film presents a hopeful picture in which walls between workers crumble. Beyond that, it shows a conservative society whose internal walls are being breached.
